Elephant riding trip into the jungle, then the river.....! After an excellent lunch, onto the train ride along the "Death Railway"
|
||||||
![]() Me and Tim were amazed as our "driver" jumped off with our camera, then called the elephant to walk towards him...! |
![]() Ramon and his new wife from Mexico, on their honeymoon, descending into the river, and yes it was that steep |
![]() Me and Tim with our newly made Elephant handler hats.....! We know how we look - thanks |
![]() Picture by Ramon, of our handler using a live step ladder to get juicy branches for elephant to eat |
|||
![]() Back at the elephant centre, time to meet the new recruits...! Sweet eh? |
![]() Dancing in time to music |
![]() Ramons' wife gets a proper Thai massage...! |
![]() Elephant goes shopping...! Give it a 10Bhat note, it rushes to the stall, gives the cash in exchange for a goodie bag... |
|||
![]() ...you feed it the goodies, then it takes the bag and puts it in the rubbish bin for you, sorted...! Asda trip anyone? |
![]() Me and my new friends |
![]() My shopping had to be placed in the mouth directly, not into the trunk like Tim did, they are so gentle...and very hungry...! |
![]() Burma into Thailand, built by the POW's of the Japanese in WW2, otherwise known as the death railway |
|||
![]() The train arrives, and the signal baton is exchanged. Very old fashioned way to control a line |
![]() It was over 40 degrees and no air-con....sticking my head out, actually didn't didn't make me feel any cooler....! |
![]() How I wish these were still steam trains running all the way to Bangkok |
![]() Approaching the wooden viaduct, the train slows down. This is over 500m long, and apparently the only one left in the world |
|||
![]() It looks so old and worn, amazing it still stands and carries the weight of heavy trains |
![]() Quite a drop down into the river, should it all go wrong, but spectacular all the same |
![]() Farmland beside the railway, look how rich the soil looks, but it was 40 degrees still remember...! |
![]() Our day trip was over. A 3 hour minibus ride back to Bangkok, luckily we had air-con, these ladies didn't (12 or more in here??) |
